Pragmatist's Trip-Hop Mix Sessions
The trip-hop genre has undergone a fantastic evolution over the last decade. I'm going to showcase some of the highlights over the next few days. It's the source of much of the inspiration for my own music, and the artists you'll hear here, like Forss, demonstrate such versatility in the cross-genre wonderland of break-beats, jazz, classical, and traditional trip-hop downbeats.
This will be the type of music you'll need to sit back and listen to... don't just play it in the background whilst doing something else. Trip-hop may have begun the chill-out lounge music scene, the 'cafe/muzak' establishment and the whole Cafe Del Mar record label, however the best of it is a showcase in electronic wizardry and nuance in soundscapes.
So do its just deserves, and sit back, concentrate and appreciate the layers of awesomeness, the spirals of groove, and the wickedness of syncopated-percussive sampling.
You'll find Pragmatist's Trip-Hop Mix Sessions, added to the home page (above) with a bit of extra variety for good measure, as well as link to Pragmatist's YouTube Channel here.

New EP Release: "Procrasturbation" by Pragmatist, June 2010
Well, the online release of my new EP "Procrasturbation" is now available for streaming and download. The whole album is hosted courtesy of iLike, and you can stream/download the entire EP for free here.
The music you are hearing now is straight from my podcast, which I'll keep adding new tracks to in between full releases.
The goal of this latest release is to use instruments not native to the electronica scene, such as the classical cello, electric cello, piano and clavinova (synthesised for convenience) and using some perverse and unique electronic tools to modernise their respective sounds.
Procrasturbation is an amalgamation of the live jazz scene, with dirty loops, distinctive riffs and obscure timbres, with the kinky bass, synths and break beats of the drum'n'bass scene. The influences are far and wide and I like to think that it makes for a unique mix, inspired by artists as diverse as Bonobo, Amon Tobin, Cinematic Orchestra, Portishead, Avalanches, Radiohead, Sibelius, Bartok, Keith Jarrett, Brad Mehldau, The Bad Plus and Esbjorn Svensson Trio.
Pragmatist is a modern take on classical instrumentation, the innovation in unique electronic textures and the deep groove of kick-arse beats.
It's electronica, it's jazz, it's trip hop lounge music.
You've heard it before, but never like this. This is Pragmatist.
